Dugotrajno pu\u0161enje skra\u0107uje \u017eivot za desetak godina, a pogor\u0161ava zdravlje jer pove\u0107ava vjerojatnost razvoja velikog broja bolesti razli\u010ditih organa kao \u0161to su srce, mozak, plu\u0107a, bubrezi, crijeva, zubno meso i zubi. Procjenjuje se da otprilike 9000 ljudi u Hrvatskoj svake godine umre od posljedica pu\u0161enja. Istra\u017eivanja pokazuju da je duhan jedna od psihoaktivnih tvari koje najlak\u0161e izazivaju ovisnost, a zdravstveni problemi kao \u0161to je ka\u0161alj ve\u0107inu pu\u0161a\u010da ne\u0107e navesti da prestanu pu\u0161iti, ve\u0107 \u0107e nastaviti dok ne do\u017eive neku iznenadnu komplikaciju kao \u0161to je infarkt. Neki pu\u0161a\u010di upotrebljavaju e-cigarete jer smatraju da nisu jako \u0161tetne. Me\u0111utim, one tako\u0111er sadr\u017ee nikotin, koji nepovoljno djeluje na razvoj mozga mladih osoba. Osim toga, u njima se nalaze diacetil i razli\u010diti metali (nikal, kositar i olovo) povezani s bolestima plu\u0107a i drugih dijelova di\u0161nog sustava.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dobra je vijest da se tijelo mo\u017ee oporaviti od \u0161tetnih posljedica pu\u0161enja pa \u0107e tako za nekoliko tjedana od prestanka pu\u0161enja do\u0107i do boljeg rada plu\u0107a i cirkulacije, za nekoliko mjeseci smanjit \u0107e se ka\u0161alj, za oko godinu dana znatno \u0107e se smanjiti \u00a0rizik za koronarnu bolest srca, a za nekoliko godina smanjit \u0107e se i rizik za mo\u017edani udar. Me\u0111utim, ve\u0107ini pu\u0161a\u010da nije lako prestati pu\u0161iti jer se nekoliko dana (a u nekom slu\u010dajevima i dulje) nakon posljednje popu\u0161ene cigarete \u010desto javljaju \u017eudnja, anksioznost, problem pozornosti i druge neugodne posljedice. Stru\u010dnjaci ipak savjetuju nagao i potpun prestanak pu\u0161enja, premda je nekim pu\u0161a\u010dima lak\u0161e postupno smanjivati broj cigareta.
