Ro\u0111ena je 1. travnja 1776. u Parizu, a umrla je 27. lipnja 1831. Borila se protiv dru\u0161tvenih predrasuda svog doba i nedostatka formalnog obrazovanja. \u010cak joj se i danas ne pridaje dovoljna zasluga za doprinos koji je dala u teoriji brojeva i matemati\u010dkoj fizici jer je \u017eena.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Poha\u0111ala je predavanja na Ecole Polytehnique u Parizu, ali zbog svojega roda nije mogla upisati studij. Pod pseudonimom Monsieur LeBlanc sura\u0111ivala je s raznim matemati\u010darima (Joseph Fourier, Joseph Louis de Lagrange, Carl Friedrich Gauss). Izgradila je teoriju elasti\u010dnosti, odgovaraju\u0107i na natje\u010daj francuske Akademije znanosti iz 1809., a 1816. osvojila je nagradu. Doprinijela je razvoju teorije brojeva, po njoj su nazvani i prosti brojevi za koje vrijedi da su p i 2p+1 prosti (npr. 2, 3, 5, 11, 23). Za pravokutni trokut sa stranicama 3, 4, 5 vrijedi da su duljina jedne katete i hipotenuze prosti brojevi Sophie Germain, a duljina druge katete prirodan broj.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>p<\/em>&#8211; duljina hipotenuze<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"197\" height=\"34\" src=\"\" alt=\"Text Box: q 2= p2-n2 = (p-n)(p+n)\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>q<\/em>&#8211; duljina jedne katete<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>n<\/em>&#8211; duljina druge katete<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Znamo da je <em>q<\/em> prost broj pa vrijedi <em>p<\/em>&#8211;<em>n<\/em>=1, <em>p<\/em>+<em>n<\/em>=<em>q<\/em><sup>2 <\/sup>=&gt; <em>p<\/em>=(<em>q<\/em><sup>2<\/sup>+1)\/2<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>3, 4, 5 je jedina Pitagorina trojka koja zadovoljava uvjete.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Kad je imala 13 godina, Sophie je bila primorana provoditi vrijeme kod ku\u0107e zbog pada Bastille te revolucije. Vrijeme je kratila u o\u010devoj knji\u017enici gdje je prona\u0161la \u201c<em>L&#8217;Histoire des Math\u00e9matiques<\/em>\u201d J. E. Montucle, \u010dija ju je pri\u010da o Arhimedovoj smrti zaintrigirala.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Smatrala je da je metoda geometrije (koja se u to vrijeme odnosila na svu \u010distu matematiku) predmet vrijedan prou\u010davanja ako je mogla tako fascinirati Arhimeda. Prou\u010dila je svaku knjigu o matematici u o\u010devoj knji\u017enici. Potom se \u010dak i sama nau\u010dila latinski i gr\u010dki kako bi mogla \u010ditati djela poznatih znanstvenika poput Sir Isaaca Newtona i Leonharda Eulera.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Njezini roditelji u po\u010detku nisu odobravali njezinu fascinaciju matematikom koja se tada smatrala neprikladnom za \u017eene.
